This is a story shared by Bill, who is from California.

In June 2025, I installed Robofinity InsightDrive in my 2013 Tesla Model S as a birthday surprise for myself. Before that, I’d been hooked when I saw its ad on Facebook — for someone who drives year-round in complex road conditions, it’s simply a "must-have" tailored specifically for my car.

I live in Humboldt County in northern Northern California, also known as the "Lost Coast," a region where redwood forests meet the ocean. The weather here is like an unpredictable child. On its most volatile days, it can shift from clear skies to drizzling rain, then suddenly be shrouded in thick fog — and such days can last for months. Even more nerve-wracking are the "uninvited guests" on the road: deer, antelopes, elk, bears, mountain lions, and pedestrians jokingly called "California jaywalkers." I have to stay on high alert every time I drive.

I spend at least 8 hours a week driving in these conditions, and occasionally take cross-state road trips. That’s why a reliable thermal imaging camera system has become a necessity. Now, Robofinity InsightDrive has been with me for 4 months, through all kinds of extreme weather, and my affection for it has only grown — I’d even say it’s become my most reassuring "copilot" while driving.

What I’m most grateful for is that it has saved jaywalkers wearing dark clothes several times late at night. Isn’t it strange? These people always go out in all black at night. Without the device’s timely alerts, the consequences would have been unthinkable. Even when it doesn’t sound an alarm occasionally — like when the target is outside the set alert range or the AI fails to recognize it temporarily — I can still see the target from a distance on the screen and prepare in advance. Over time, I can even tell what it is at a glance based on the shape and heat intensity of the target on the screen. After all, the device’s screen is always clearly visible and doesn’t block the view of the windshield.

During my most recent road trip, I was even more impressed by Robofinity’s outstanding performance under extreme temperature differences. At that time, I passed through Redding, California, where the temperature reached 103 degrees Fahrenheit (about 39.4 degrees Celsius). I turned off the vehicle detection function, but pedestrian detection still worked normally. To my surprise, a figure with a thermal signature "colder" than the background suddenly appeared on the screen, like a shadow. A second later, "Ding Dong" — the device successfully recognized him. At that moment, my fondness for it grew even more.

There have also been several times when, on dark country roads, the high beams from oncoming cars blinded me completely. Every time this happens, I just need to glance quickly at Robofinity’s screen to confirm if the road ahead is clear. Having an extra pair of "eyes" at moments when visibility is almost zero is truly reassuring.
